Just hear those sleigh bells jingling, ring tingle tingling too, come on, it's lovely weather for a sleigh ride together with you. It's certainly not snowy weather here in Augusta, however, the weather is now perfectly chilly for a (socially-distanced) holiday event. We have your round-up below of a few events to put you in the spirits this holiday season.
Holiday Book Signing
Join the Augusta Canal Discovery Center for a book signing with local artist April Henry King on December 8th from 4 to 7 PM. We have included this new children's book in our holiday gift guide as the perfect gift for the little one in your life.
During the month of December, The Boyhood Home of President Woodrow Wilson will be decorated for Christmas in the style of 1920 with fresh evergreens and festive decorations. 1920 marks Wilson’s last year as U.S. president, when women gained the right to vote.
December tours of the Boyhood Home of President Woodrow are offered as usual on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays except for December 24th and 25th when the museum will be closed. In addition, two Saturdays will be included on December 12th and 19th. Reservations are required for the guided tours and are limited to six people to ensure social distancing. Tours begin on the hour from 10 am to 4 pm. Masks must be worn for the duration of the tour, and hand sanitizer will be available. Admission price is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, and $3 for students.
A Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols
This year's event will feature the same inspiring readings and uplifting choral music that guests have enjoyed for the past 31 years, but in a different format. The traditional Christmas worship service will be pre-recorded in the magnificent Great Hall of Sacred Heart. With the purchase of a $30 support ticket, a link to the video will be emailed, allowing guests to watch the recording any time and as often as liked. Recording available by December 7.
To purchase your $30 support ticket, please call 706-826-4700.
Take a ride through festive downtown Augusta as businesses participate in window decorating for the holiday season starting on December 2nd. Use our interactive map for participating locations before your tour, take the tour, and then swing through Augusta & Co. to vote for your favorite decor.
Voting ends on December 23rd.
A Colonial Christmas
Meadow Garden, the home of George Walton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, will be trimmed with tinsel this year and fully showcased as a colonial Christmas available for private tours. Appointments can be made for December 11-12 from 6 to 8 PM by calling 706-724-4174.
Come shop from a curated selection of local + regional vendors at the Westobou Gallery from December 7th through the 19th. Event proceeds benefit Westobou + Augusta Handmade Fair. Event hours are Monday through Friday 10 AM to 5 PM and Saturday 10 AM to 4 PM.
Visit the Augusta Museum of History this holiday season to view their delicious display of gingerbread houses. Each historic-themed gingerbread creation will be available through silent auction, with proceeds benefiting museum programs and exhibitions.
