Each year during National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW), we celebrate the power of travel and its vital role in connecting people and communities. The Destination Augusta team took this message to heart—by becoming tourists in our own city! We paired up and ventured out to experience Augusta through fresh eyes, revisiting favorite spots and discovering new hidden gems. Whether you're a local or planning your next visit, read on for inspiration from our team's Augusta adventures.
A Taste of Culture
Karen & Rachel
Karen and Rachel’s day was filled with color, flavor, and fresh air. They started their adventure at Curry Hut, where they enjoyed rich, aromatic Indian cuisine full of spices and warmth. Then, they wandered through the lush, plant-filled paradise of Bedford Greenhouses, browsing everything from seasonal blooms to houseplants. “We both geeked out over the selection of tiny plants for our terrariums. Adorable!,” Rachel shared.
Play Like a Pro
Sarah & Taylor B.
Sarah and Taylor B. leaned into Augusta’s sporty side with a morning round at Eisenhower Lakes Golf Course, a local favorite located on Fort Eisenhower. After some time on the greens, they switched gears for a little friendly competition at Five Star Lanes Bowling Alley. “It reminded me that Augusta has a ton of fun, family-friendly activities we don’t always think about,” Sarah said.
Canals & Caffeine
Trent & Mamie
Trent and Mamie chose to blend nature and neighborhood charm. They kicked off their day with a peaceful stroll along the scenic Augusta Canal Trail, then rewarded themselves with a coffee break at Buona Caffe, a cozy local favorite known for its expertly crafted espresso drinks. “Sometimes the best part of the city is just slowing down and taking it all in,” Mamie noted. (At the time of this experience, Trent was a valued part of our team.)
Foodie & Fun
Taylor W. & Bennish
Taylor W. and Bennish went full feel-good foodie. They started their day with brunch bites and charcuterie at Finch & Fifth before heading to Dave & Buster’s for an afternoon of arcade games and laughs. “It was the perfect mix of refined and ridiculous—and we loved every minute,” Taylor laughed.
Wellness & Water
Ansley & Jennifer
Ansley and Jennifer took the wellness route with a relaxing session inside the Sol Himalayan Salt Cave, where calm lighting and therapeutic salt air helped them unwind. Then, they added some excitement with a jet ski ride from Reserve & Ride Water Sports on the Savannah River. “Augusta offers both serenity and adventure,” Ansley said. “That was the biggest surprise of the day!”
Cozy & Creative
Cassidy & Michelle
Cassidy and Michelle embraced all things warm and welcoming with a morning visit to Cafe on 8th for pastries and coffee in downtown Augusta. Then, they let their creative side shine with a custom-scent experience at Augusta Candle Company. “We smelled everything—and finally settled on the perfect blend for a candle that felt like ‘us,’” Cassidy shared with a laugh.
National Travel and Tourism Week reminds us that travel doesn’t have to mean going far. Sometimes, the best adventures are waiting right outside your front door. Whether you're looking for something new to try or wanting to support local businesses, we hope our team's experiences inspire you to explore Augusta like a tourist this week—and every week.
