Before Woodrow Wilson grew up in our city and later became President, before the Masters Golf Tournament began, before James Brown shined shoes on our streets and later started a music revolution, Augusta was known as a healthful resort town. So our city has deep roots in medicine. The Medical College of Georgia was first established here and since then, more than half a dozen medical facilities are located in Augusta. Just outside of downtown, the Medical District is home to Augusta University and the Augusta University Cancer Center, Children’s Hospital of Georgia, Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center and University Hospital.
