What do you think was James Brown’s inspiration for the song “I Got You (I Feel Good)?” We’re thinking it was probably the fun and funky vibe of Augusta. Our music and nightlife scene has all the sugar and spice the Godfather of Soul loved about this city: classics to musical newcomers, bluegrass to craft beers, seasonal music venues to a year-round bar scene.
The music and nightlife scene in and around Augusta is about as varied as Mr. Brown’s own career. We have everything from 80s night at The Soul Bar to rocking chair sipping at Stillwater.
You can go out on almost any given night and hear live music at large locations like the James Brown Arena, the Imperial Theatre or Jessye Norman Amphitheater. You could also slip into one of the many eclectic bars and listen to the sounds of local musicians. Just like James Brown, Augusta embraces all kinds of music.
When the lights go down, the food and drinks come out. Just like a good Southerner, we try to accommodate all kinds of tastes, like artisan cocktails at Finch & Fifth, world-class wine at Craft & Vine, straight sips at Surrey Tavern or craft beers at The Hive.
In Augusta, music and nightlife go hand in hand. Sure, you can find one without the other. But would you really want that?
