First Contact Day: Star Trek Fan Celebration

The U.S.S. Star League (http://www.ussstarleague.com), local chapter of STARFLEET: The International Star Trek Fan Association, and the Augusta-Richmond County Public Library System are joining forces to bring Augustans where they have never gone before – a First Contact Day Celebration! In the Star Trek Universe, First Contact Day commemorates when humans and Vulcans first meet in the Star Trek Universe in early April, paving the way for the adventures of Captain Kirk and numerous others in outer space.

Our guest of honor is Mr. Mark Davis, Deputy Vice President of NNSA Operations and Programs at the Savannah River Site and former Commanding officer of the USS North Carolina (SSN 77) and the USS Montpelier (SSN 765), who will speak on the similarities of living on a submarine and living on a star ship. Star Trek superfan actors and set builders from Dominion Media (http://www.dominionmedia.us) will discuss how they create fan films based on the TV series. A green screen photographer will be on hand to take interstellar pictures of aspiring space explorers. There will also be displays, presentations, and more by members of the U.S.S. Star League.
For attendees who want to take home a First Contact Day souvenir, the Augusta Book Exchange and Dominion Media will be on hand with Star Trek themed merchandise and fan film DVDs.

The library offers flexible space that's great for small group training and education sessions. Computer lab equipped with 16 Microsoft Windows 2007 loaded laptops, instructor podium, projector and screen.
