I recently attended the Grand Opening of the new Interstate 20 and Interstate 520 interchange.  This interchange was reconstructed to include two flyover ramps, and various other upgrades to the interstate system.   It took two years to complete this $191.9 million project and wound up being finished almost a year earlier than expected.  As the Georgia Department of Transportation, elected officials and contractors cut the ribbon on the new flyover it was exciting to be standing in the middle of the highway watching this historic day unfold!  This new interchange will make it easier for visitors to get in and out of Augusta and create a major metropolitan feel to the city.  In addition, new lighting along select I-20 exits will brighten those intersections and make them more inviting for visitors to stop and refuel or refresh along their way.  Now every time I drive over that flyover, I’ll remember standing in the middle of the interstate as progress rolled forward.
