9 Augusta Adventures for Your Next Mancation
You're tired. You're stressed out. You're bored. The cure? A little bro bonding. Luckily, we've got nine ways to have fun with the boys and sharpen those #ManSkills on your next guys trip or guys night out in Augusta.
Take a hike.
What's a mancation without escaping into the wild? And by wild, I mean the 1,100 acres that is Phinizy Swamp Nature Park. True, it's not unchartered territory, but here you can navigate 14 miles of trails like a pro instead of being that guy - you know, the one who has to call the National Guard because he strayed too far off the beaten path.
Channel your inner Dustin Johnson and drive, chip and putt your way across world class courses like a boss. Hot or cold. Rain or shine. No membership needed. Yeah, you heard that right. The Inside Drive lets you pick from virtual courses like St. Andrew's Link - The Old Course and Pinehurst No. 2 before teeing off on their high-end FullSwing Simulator. And the bar is just a few steps away. #Winning
Try your climbing skills.
Spend the afternoon one-upping the brohans at Active Climbing's huge climbing gym and full size ninja warrior course. Insta posts of your and your friends hanging from 30 foot rock walls will have your followers like...#SquadGoals.
Swinging from a giant tree as fast and high as humanly possible before dive/flip/smashing into the river in an attempt to get the most epic GoPro video ever is a mancation-must. But if you'd prefer to leave Augusta without a trip to the emergency room, then call Cole Watkins Tours and spend the day following kayak guide and CWT owner, Cole, through Augusta's water trails to some of the most awesome spots in the River Region. (He can also assist you in finding said rope swing - if you change your mind.)
Go for baseball and beer.
Nothing goes better with baseball than pretzels, hotdogs and ice cold draft beer. Enter Thirsty Thursdays - the Augusta Greenjackets' gift to beer drinkers. Each Thursday home game during the regular season (April - September), you can grab $1 beers and root for the home team like a local.
Take your best shot.
Hop in the car and drive just 30 minutes from downtown Augusta to the Palmetto Shooting Complex where you can take aim on one of the two dedicated sporting clays courses or five trap and skeet fields.
Hit F.A.T.S. on your mountain bike.
Mountain bike, meet the Forks Area Trail System. If you haven't heard, it's one of the best trail systems in the Southeast. In fact, it's so awesome it was awarded IMBA Epic status in 2009. Six loops with varying lengths and features offer more than 35 miles of trails that keep both beginner and seasoned riders coming back for more.
Laugh til your face hurts.
Watch comedy get made up on the spot as two teams of crack improvisers battle it out in the continuing quest for comedic domination every first Friday of the month at Le Chat Noir. Think Daniel Tosh meets Whose Line Is It Anyway. The longer you stay, the better it gets - so plan on making it a late night.
Tour a brewery (or two).
Call your 4-man (or more) wolf pack and grab an Uber for a chill afternoon of porch sitting and beer drinking. Take a tour and try a few brews at Riverwatch Brewery and Savannah River Brewing Company. If you prefer stiff drinks, then head over to 2nd City Distillery in downtown Augusta, or Carolina Moon Distillery in downtown Edgefield's iconic town square.
