Pedal Through the Past: Canal Bike Tours
Saturday May 17, 2014
Bring your bike and enjoy a ride along the canal towpath with an experienced Augusta Canal tour guide. You’ll learn a bit about the history, engineering and natural surroundings that make the Augusta Canal a National Heritage Area.
The ride from Lake Olmstead to the Raw Water Pump Station passes flood gates, spillways, train trestles, and bridges. You’ll learn about canal structures in use today and see remnants of older structures.
Rides last about 30 to 45 minutes, one way. Bring your own bike and helmet.
For detailed directions to the meet-up point click here and read the instructions for "Lake Olmstead Pedestrian Bridge". Riders will meet in the gravel parking lot.
