As part of its continuing Brown Bag History Series, the Augusta Museum of History presents, The Titleholder’s Tournament and the Beginning of the LGPA , a presentation given by Mr. Bill Bottomley.
Mr. Bottomley will be discussing the early days of the Titleholder’s Tournament, its history in Augusta and many of the participants and winners. The Titleholder’s Tournament originated in Augusta at the Augusta Country Club in 1937 and ceased in Augusta in 1966. The Tournament moved to the LPGA headquarters in Daytona Beach for several years.
Mr. Bottomley, originally from New Jersey, is the former President of the Augusta Country Club and the Titleholders Golf Association of Augusta. A graduated of Rutgers University, he arrived at Ft. Gordon in 1958. Taught swimming for eighteen months at Armed Forces Golf Course, now Forest Hills Golf Course. Fell in love with Augusta and after a brief career with Campbell Soup returned to Augusta in 1961.
